As a certified DaVinci roofing installer in Texas, we receive several questions about the materials that will go on our customers’ roofs. These are our most frequently asked questions:
There are many reasons why engineered slate and shake roofing by DaVinci is so desirable
- Thicker: Slate and shake tiles are twice as thick as other engineered roof tiles, ensuring greater durability and similarity to natural slate and shake
- Multi-Width: DaVinci Slate and Shake roof tiles give you the option of installing various widths to create a varied pattern and a nicer aesthetic
- Single-Width: For those who may forgo a tile pattern, single-width roof tiles are also available. These feature a patented leading edge tab and a self-aligning ledge, which ensures quick installation
Natural Colors: DaVinci tiles are incredibly appealing for a Houston roof replacement because they are engineered to mimic natural slate and shake. This means their various color options are also natural, allowing you to enjoy a custom roof appearance
DaVinci roof tiles are U.S.A made! DaVinci’s headquarters and production facility are located in Lenexa, Kansas
In order to make their slate and shake roof tiles durable, DaVinci Roofscapes uses an engineered polymer with a fire retardant and advanced UV and thermal stabilizers.
Other synthetic roof tiles may be manufactured with recycled materials, but these materials are known to compromise the signature beauty and durability DaVinci Roofscapes has perfected over the years. However, DaVinci slate and shake tiles can be recycled later on.
DaVinci Slate roof tiles offers features that others don’t, including:
- Thicker profiles
- Varied shingle widths
- Pre-organized bundles for quicker installation
- Lifetime Limited Material Warranty
- Optional finish for extra UV protection
When compared to other engineered slate roof tiles, DaVinci costs about the same, but offers far greater value.
No. The color remains present throughout the entire roof tile, making it “color-through”.
Yes. From tile to tile there is a slight variation in colors due to the fact that DaVinci has engineered their tiles to mimic real slate and shake.
Price per square foot of DaVinci roof tiles vary based on how many tiles are needed to cover your entire Houston roof replacement.
No. When manufacturing their tiles, DaVinci tests them under accelerated weathering cycles to ensure they do not become brittle in the cold months over the years.
DaVinci roof shingles feature an engineered rib structure that eliminates curling, even in extreme winds like those we experience during Houston’s hurricane season.
DaVinci roofing shingles are engineered to withstand the intense UV exposure that Houston roofs usually succumb to.
Even though Houston’s winter isn’t as cold as other cities and states, DaVinci roof tiles remain sturdy well below zero degrees.
Yes. When Houston roofs succumb to our rare freezes, this is usually because typical roof shingles absorb the water. DaVinci roof shingles do not absorb water and, therefore, do not freeze or become damaged due to freezes.
UV rays are the main culprit of faded roof shingle colors. Because DaVinci roofing is exceptionally UV resistant, colors will remain vibrant. Further, DaVinci offers an additional Kynar coating that provides even greater UV protection.
No. Your new DaVinci roof shingles will come bundled and pre-sorted. All our Houston roof replacement experts need to do is unpack and get to installing.
Our Houston roof experts will follow DaVinci’s roof tile installation guidelines to a T. Further, DaVinci’s tiles are actually very lightweight, so there is no need to reinforce your roof structure before we install your new roofing.
As with all of our Houston roof replacement projects, new roof shingles are best installed over a fully stripped roof. Although DaVinci roof tiles have been installed over 3-tab roof shingles, installing new roof shingles over old roof shingles is not likely to meet building codes and standards.
DaVinci recommends using copper, stainless steel, or hot-dipped galvanized nails, though DaVinci tiles also support electro-galvanized nails, if the nails fall the warranty may not be fully applicable.
