We will soon be experiencing the part of the year where hail causes the most damage on a nationwide basis. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), from March to June, the average hail loss claims per month has been about 126,000. This is a major increase from the monthly average of the other eight months, which is a little more than 25,000. When it comes to major storms, that at times can cover multiple states, the costs reach approximately $1 billion.

According to this report, Texas has experienced the most damage from hail by far compared to the other 49 states. Of those damages reported to personal property, it was Personal Property Homeowners (PPHO) policies that were affected the most. These home damage claims made up more than 50% of the overall claims.

When hail hits a home, the most common type of damage caused is hail roof damage. The roof plays an important role in ensuring your entire home remains protected. This is why we greatly encourage our customers to keep their roof’s protection in mind.

WHEN HAIL CAUSES ROOF DAMAGE

When a storm hits your home and there is heavy hail involved, it is best to have your roof inspected for damage. If there is storm roof damage, then you should have your roof fixed quickly before the arrival of another strong storm or before a small problem becomes a large one.

To ensure you get the best roof replacement or roof repair, contact our Houston office before you contact your insurance adjuster so that we can be there when the adjuster makes their inspection. This is to help make sure you have someone there to represent your home’s interests.

At Amstill Roofing, we specialize in roof replacement and roof repairs for those homeowners who have experienced storm or hail roof damage. With a greatly increased chance of numerous hail storms in Texas, particularly in Houston, over the course of the next few months, it would be a good idea to have one of our roofing professionals come inspect your roof. We want to make sure that your home is ready for the inevitable storms.

February happens to be one of the best times of the year for Houstonians to receive a free roof inspection from Amstill Roofing. This month is typically full of agreeable weather conditions. In Houston, the average highs range between 60 and 70 degrees and the average lows ranging in the mid- to high-40s.

Compared to most areas in the United States, Houston’s February is like spring. This is why we think this month is a perfect time to consider receiving a roof inspection. There are certain things to look for when considering a roof replacement.

REASONS FOR ROOF REPLACEMENT

  • Age of Your Roof - This is a very important aspect of your roof to know. There is a big difference between viewing the roof from the ground and getting on top of the roof and inspecting possible problems. So even if the shingles seem in working order and nothing looks very out of place from the ground, there may be significant wear and tear. If your roof shingles haven’t been changed in about 20 years, then there is a good chance that it needs to be replaced. With constant rain, wind, and Houston’s extreme heat impacting your roof, receiving a roof inspection is a smart idea. (There are more expensive shingles that can last between 30-50 years.)
  • Shingle Condition - If your shingles are curling or breaking, then it may be time to have your shingles replaced. Shingles are used as an extra layer of protection and take the brunt of the atmospheric punishment doled out by Mother Nature. Keeping an eye on the condition of your shingles is a good idea. Even if they are relatively new, they can still become damaged, loosened, or removed by harsh weather.
  • Weak Spots - Sometimes you are able to see if there are weak spots in your roof from not even conducting a close-up and thorough inspection. If there are dips or “valleys” in your roof, they are sometimes noticeable. If water is collecting there or if the certain area is darkened, there may be substantial roof damage.
